Swale Sailing Club

The Swale Sailing Club (SSC) was based at the disused cement works at Elmley, and established in the late 1950s or early 1960s.

The proprietor was a Mr. Richard Wakelin of Kingshill, Elmley, Sheppey, Kent.

There were rumoured to be two wooden ex Navy minesweepers at Elmley. The better of the two minesweepers was acquired by Mr. Wakelin, and floated into the remains of a small dock and used for a clubhouse & accommodation. The remaining ex minesweeper may be one of the hulks which remains on the foreshore today.

The Club appears to have dissolved in the early 1970s.
